Lee’s half-brother Alfred, although I did find this story from the Stratford Hall Project. I spent days combing the internet and I couldn’t find anything regarding Robert E.
This article stated that Alfred Lee had “bought his time as a slave,” I’m assuming that meant he bought his freedom, then moved to Georgetown. He left behind $300,000, which would be the equivalent of $5.7 million today. He was also incredibly wealthy for those days, especially for a Black man.
